Bottom Line's first office was a small room on the first floor of New Mission High School in Mission Hill, where founder Dave Borgal began meeting with students from Boston. Word of the services that Bottom Line provided spread quickly and we outgrew the space. For the last ten years, Bottom Line has been located in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston, one block from The English High School and across the street from the Green Street T station.
Boston Success
Over the last 13 years, Bottom Line has grown into the premier college counseling agency in Boston, designed specifically to serve students from low-income households and/or the first generation of their family to attend college. Students from across the city come to our office, interested in the intensive one-on-one service we provide. We take pride in our 98% college acceptance rate, and our rising 72% college graduation rate.
Plans for Growth in Boston
Bottom Line has grown almost entirely by word of mouth through the students in our program. The only factors that seem to limit our ability to serve more students is the size of our staff. For the coming school year, we have added additional college counselors and will serve 500 high school seniors and 850 college students from Boston. By 2015, we hope to serve 1,000 college students from Boston each year.
A college degree is necessary to become economically self-sufficient in the 21st century. Presently, far too few Boston high school graduates are making it to and through college. Bottom Line has 13 years of evidence thats shows our intensive one-on-one support can help hundreds of Boston students each year to get in, graduate, and go far.
