Bottom Line's first office was a small room on the first floor of New Mission High School in Mission Hill, where our founder, Dave Borgal began meeting with students from around the city. Word of the services that Bottom Line provided spread quickly and we outgrew the space. For the last eight years, Bottom Line has been located in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston, adjacent to The English High School and across the street from the Green Street T station.
Boston Success
In slightly more than a decade, Bottom Line has grown into the premier college counseling agency in Boston, designed specifically to serve students from low income families or who are in the first generation in their family to go to college. Students from around the city have descended on the office, interested in the intensive one-on-one service we provide. We take pride in the 98% acceptance rate of our students getting in to college, and are continuously focused on improving the college graduation results which now stands at nearly 80%.
Plans for Growth in Boston
For the last few years, Bottom Line has grown almost entirely based on the word of mouth of the students in our program. The only factor that seems to be limiting our ability to serve more students has been the size of our staff and the physical space of our office. This year we have added additional staff and will serve 400 high school seniors and nearly 600 college students. We are also awaiting the completion of a brand new office and student space that is being constructed adjacent to our current office at 500 Amory Street. The office should be completed by December 2008. This new facility will double the space available for staff and students and allow us to expand to serve even more students in the coming years.
A college degree is a clear benchmark needed to be self sufficient in the economy of the 21st century. Presently, far too few Boston high school graduates are making it to or through college. Bottom Line has 11 years of evidence showing that through our brand of intensive one-on-one support we can help hundreds of Boston students each year Get In, Graduate and Go Far.
