Greg Johnson, Executive Director

Greg Johnson became Executive Director of Bottom Line in September 2003. Since his arrival, Bottom Line has seen tremendous growth, doubling the number of students served. Prior to joining Bottom Line, Greg worked for The Princeton Review in Boston as Marketing and Outreach Director for nearly 6 years. It was in 1999, while at The Princeton Review, that Greg first met Dave Borgal and was introduced the staff and students of Bottom Line. Greg grew up in Enfield, Connecticut, went to school at Brown University ('94) and currently lives in Stoughton, MA with his wife and daughters.

Dave Borgal, Director of Operations

Dave was born in Reading, Massachusetts and currently lives in Saugus, Massachusetts. He earned his Bachelors Degree in Journalism from Northeastern University in 1993 and his Masters Degree in Education from Salem State College in 1994. Dave started Bottom Line in July 1997, and recruited the first class of 25 students in late August 1997. 21 of the 25 kids from the first class earned a college degree. He worked out of a small office in New Mission High School in Roxbury for the first three years before moving Bottom Line's operations to Jamaica Plain in September 2000. After stepping down from the Executive Director role in 2003, Dave rejoined Bottom Line in July 2004 to focus his efforts on program development.

Lauren Davis, Director of Student Services

Lauren grew up in Mount Holly, New Jersey, a suburb of Philadelphia, and earned a BA in writing from Gettysburg College in 2002. After graduation, she came to Bottom Line as a college access counselor, and over the next three years also worked as a college success counselor, program coordinator, and writing teacher. In addition to her work at Bottom Line, Lauren has worked as a grant manager in Princeton University's community-based research program and writing teacher at KIPP's AIM Academy in Washington, DC. Lauren rejoined Bottom Line in July 2007 as the Director of Student Services.

Mike Wasserman, Director of Development

Mike grew up in Needham, MA and earned his BA in Public Policy from Brown University in 2006. Mike has worked as a coordinator of the Rhode Island Urban Debate League and as a debate coach at two Providence high schools. Mike also ran a youth summer theater in Needham, Massachusetts for three years, and worked for Campus Compact doing development work. He joined Bottom Line in June 2006 as the Development Manager.

Sarah Hedges, Access Coordinator

Sarah grew up in Oakland, CA and moved to New Hampshire in 1995. She graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2004 with a BA in English. Upon graduating, she worked on the Democratic National Convention and the Kerry Campaign and went on to a job in community relations at Citizens Bank. While working at Citizens, she read a proposal for funding from Bottom Line and was so inspired by the mission that she decided to apply for a job. She has been a part of Bottom Line's staff since August 2006.

Claudine Johnson, Senior Counselor

Claudine was born and raised in Montego Bay, Jamaica until the age of nine when she moved to Boston and attended John D. O'Bryant High School. She was a student in Bottom Line as well as a Posse Scholar and graduated from Bryn Mawr College in May 2005 with a degree in the Growth and Structure of Cities. While Claudine was in school she participated in the TRICO program which helped students discuss diversity issues on campus. This and other experiences have helped prepare her for her role as a Senior Counselor at Bottom Line. She has been with Bottom Line since September 2005.

Erica Emery, Career Coordinatorr

Erica was born and raised in Farmington, Maine where she also went to college and attended the University of Maine at Farmington. After graduating with a degree in Secondary Education English, Erica moved to Athens, Greece for a year to teach as a Hellenic American Educational Foundation Teaching Fellow. During a summer position with UMF Upward Bound, Erica decided she wanted to work in the youth development field. Erica joined Bottom Line in September 2007.

Jesenia Gervacio, College Counselor

Jesenia was born in New Jersey but grew up in Lynn, Massachusetts. She attended Bryn Mawr as a Posse Scholar and recently graduated with a BA in Psychology and Spanish in May 2007. While at Bryn Mawr Jesenia worked at the Civic Engagement Office, tutored at Philly Futures and Science Leadership Academy, and was a part of the Teacher-Learning Initiative. She joined Bottom Line as a College Counselor in June 2007.

Zachariah E. Hicks, College Counselor

Zachariah was born in Maine and grew up in a small town called Bath. He attended Wheaton College in Massachusetts and graduated in May of 2007 with a B.A. in Sociology. While at Wheaton Zachariah was a part of various groups and organizations. He was president of the Wheaton Athletic Mentors, a group of student-athletes with a mission to provide emotional, physical, and academic support to other athletes as well as better the Wheaton community through campus programming. As well as his involvement as a Mentor, he was also the president and member of the Tree House, a theme house at Wheaton that worked to cultivate and foster diversity and cultural awareness through academic programs and initiatives. Zachariah joined Bottom Line in September 2007.

Oneda Horne, College Counselor

Oneda was born in Boston, Massachusetts and raised in Roxbury. She attended Boston Latin School as well as Another Course to College and graduated from Wheaton College with a B.A. in Sociology in May 2007. While at Wheaton College she initiated various multicultural programs and workshops and worked as a Resident Assistant. She was also the President of Renaissance House, a residence dedicated to supporting woman of color on campus. Oneda is a member of the Judge David S. Nelson Fellowship class of 2003 and the Nelson Fellow Coordinator for classes 2005 and 2006. She joined Bottom Line staff as a College Counselor in July 2007.

Stefanie Blechman, Office Manager

Stefanie was born in Royal Oak, Michigan and was raised in Bloomfield Hills. She attended Columbia University in New York City and graduated in May 2007 with a B.A. in History with a concentration in Eastern and Central European History and Jewish Law. While at Columbia she worked as an admissions intern and orientation leader for the class of 2006, volunteered for Everybody Wins, and taught Religious school in both New York and New Jersey. Stefanie joined Bottom Line in October 2007.

Amy Markarian, College Counselor

Amy grew up in the small town of Hopkinton, Massachusetts. She moved to Boston in the fall of 2003 to attend Northeastern University. She graduated in December of 2007 with a degree in Human Services. Throughout her time at Northeastern she was dedicated to serving the community through various volunteer projects. She was introduced to Bottom Line as a co-op student in 2005. Amy enjoyed the experience so much that she applied to be a College Counselor upon graduation. She has been back at Bottom Line since May 2008.

Ramon De Jesus, Counselor

Ramon was born and raised the Bronx, NY. In 2004, through the generosity of the Posse Foundation, he enrolled at Brandeis University where he double majored in Latin American Studies and History. Ramon graduated from Brandeis in May 2008, and joined Bottom Line in July.

Ruth Thompson, Counselor

Ruth was born in Cambridge, MA. She recently graduated from UMass-Amherst with a BA in Social Thought and Political Economy. While at UMass-Amherst Ruth served as the Student Trustee (2007-2008), worked as a Resident Assistant (2005-2008), and helped to initiate Student Bridges; which is an outreach program that connects UMass students with local community-based organizations and schools through tutoring-mentoring partnerships, college awareness activities, and policy advocacy. Ruth joined Bottom Line in July 2008.

Ginette Saimprevil, Site Director - Worcester

Ginette was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti but moved to Boston when she was ten. She is a Bottom Line Alum from New Mission High School and attended Bowdoin College where she got her degree in History in 2004. After graduating from Bowdoin in 2004, Ginette worked in the Bowdoin College Residential Life Office. In that role, she supervised the RA's and proctors and handled roommate conflicts among many other responsibilities. She brought her first-hand college life management experience to Bottom Line as a Senior College Counselor in July 2006. In July 2008, Ginette moved to Worcester to take on the leadership role at our new office in Worcester.

Miriam Rubin, Counselor - Worcester

Miriam was born and raised in Brighton, Massachusetts. She attended Boston Latin Academy and then went on to Connecticut College where she graduated with a B.A. in Sociology. During college Miriam was very active in the service learning programs at her school and did a lot of community service with inner-city students as well as internships in the field of access and success in higher education. This experience has made her passionate about the challenges that Bottom Line seeks to overcome. Miriam has been a part of the Bottom Line Staff since July 2008.
