Since inception, Bottom Line has benefited from the dedicated involvement from individuals throughout the community. Our Leadership Team is currently made up of three boards of advisors that help to guide our growth. We currently have a Board of Directors, a Worcester Advisory Committee, a Human Resources Advisory Board and an Alumni Advisory Board.

Worcester Advisory Committee 
There have been many early supporters of our efforts to open an office in Worcester, Massachusetts. Several of those individuals are now formal members of our Worcester Advisory Committee to play an integral role in the development of our office and success reaching the wider community. The Chair of our Worcester Advisory Committee will also sit on our Board of Directors.

Human Resources Advisory Committee 
The purpose of our HR Advisory group is to work with Bottom Line to engage local corporations around employing Bottom Line students, and act as a resource for Bottom Line as we develop a sustainable employment program, providing feedback and guidance as the program and the organization continue to grow.

Alumni Board 
The chief goal of Bottom Line's Alumni Board is to help the organization remain connected to the growing population of Bottom Line college grads. Additional responsibilities include creating opportunities to raise awareness of and promote Bottom Line in everyday interactions and situations and participating in events to help broaden Bottom Line's connections in the community.

Board of Directors

Margaret Andrews, Mind and Hand Associates 
Margaret Andrews, a Bottom Line board member since 2006, is a founder of Mind and Hand Associates, a research-based consulting firm dedicated to serving the education community. Until 2006, Margaret was Executive Director at the MIT Sloan School of Management, where she managed the MBA program, Admissions, Student Affairs, Career Development, Alumni Relations, the MIT Sloan Management Review, and Marketing. Previous positions include Managing Vice President for Strategy and Marketing at Eduventures, Vice President of Marketing at Putnam Investments, Senior Consultant at Mercer Management Consulting, and Accountant at Deloitte & Touche. Margaret hails from California and has an undergraduate degree in business administration from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley. She is also a graduate of the MIT Sloan MBA Program.

Peter Bishop, Goldman Sachs 
Peter is a product of the Worcester, MA Public Schools and has been a member of the board since 2006. He joined Goldman Sachs in 1994 where he continues to work as an advisor to wealthy family groups. He received his MBA from the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and earned his BS at the United States Naval Academy in 1985, where he played for the Navy hockey team. During his 7 years of military service, Peter completed a two-year post-graduate program in Nuclear Engineering, served as a nuclear engineering officer on the USS Long Beach, and taught engineering to newly commissioned officers. Peter also serves on the Leadership Council and the Marketing Committee at the Boston Medical Center. He lives in Wellesley with his wife Pattie and his 3 children, Lauren, Bryan and Kristen.

Troy Botts, Alumni Board Chair 
Troy Botts has the distinction of being one of the original 25 students from the Class of 1998 that Dave Borgal supported through the college application process. He graduated from Boston Latin Academy and went on to Northeastern University. He completed his degree in Economics and Environmental Studies at Northeastern in 2003 and has spent his post graduate years in the Boston finance and investment industry. First working for Pioneer Investments and more recently Pan Agora Asset Management. Troy has been a member of the Bottom Line Alumni Board since its inception in 2005 and was elected chair of the Alumni Board in May 2007. Troy's role as Alumni board chair is to develop the growing network of Bottom Line alumni and also to represent the alumni interests to the Board of Trustees.

George Chu, Citizen Schools 
George joined the Bottom Line board in 2005. He is currently the Chief Financial Officer at Citizen Schools. Prior to Citizen Schools, George worked as a consultant for the Bridgespan Group, a non-profit consulting firm where his work has centered on his passion for youth and education with such organizations as Year Up, City Year, New Sector Alliance and the College Board. Prior to his non-profit work, he was a management consultant at Arthur D. Little and a manufacturing engineer for Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates. George also serves on the board of ESAC, a community-based, non-profit, multi-service agency that strives to improve the quality of life for residents of Boston and eastern Massachusetts, particularly the young and the old, through innovative programs in homeownership, education and community service. He currently resides in Jamaica Plain with his wife Carolyn and his son, William.

Patrick Day, University of Massachusetts at Boston 
Originally from Toledo, Ohio, Patrick Day began his career working as an undergraduate in the Northwestern University Office of Undergraduate Admission, recruiting students of color to the University. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and Social Policy, he moved to Texas to serve as the Coordinator of Multicultural Student Services at Texas Tech University. He was promoted to Assistant Dean of Students and his responsibilities included the orientation, retention, and leadership development of students at the University. After completing a Master of Education Degree in Higher Education Administration while working at Texas Tech, Patrick moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to serve as the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students at Johnson C. Smith University. After seven months at the historically black university and at age 28, he became the Senior Student Affairs Officer at the institution charged with leadership of the entire Division of Student Affairs. Upon leaving JCSU, Patrick became the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs at Temple University becoming a senior administrator at the institution of 34,000 students. In July 2006, Patrick Day was appointed the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Massachusetts Boston. As the Chief Student Affairs Officer at the urban campus of the University of Massachusetts System, he provides leadership for the co-curricular educational experience of the University.

Emerson Foster, Stop and Shop 
A native of Jamaica, Emerson Foster is a product of the Lynn, MA Public Schools. He was the first in his family to graduate from college when he completed his Bachelors degree at the University of Rhode Island in 1990. Emerson began his career at Stop and Shop in 1995. In 1996 he was asked to lead Stop and Shop's diversity efforts and has also held the title Director of Talent Acquisition. He currently acts as Senior Director of Community Relations. In addition to supporting Bottom Line, Emerson is the founder of Men of Action, a program that brings professionals of color into the DYS system to mentor incarcerated youth. Emerson has served on the Bottom Line board since 1998 and lives in Canton, MA with his wife Anna and children Alana and Devin.

C. Sura O'Mard Gentle, Boston Public Schools 
Sura joined the board in September 2007. She has worked in the Boston Public Schools since 1987. She began her educational career as a bilingual teacher at the Mattahunt School in Boston and in 1999 she became Principal of the Ralph Waldo Emerson School. Prior to her education experience, Sura was a Contract Administrator for the Department of Transitional Assistance and a Marketing Representative at the Boston Housing Authority. She holds a BA from UMASS Amherst and a Masters degree in Education Administration from UMASS Boston. In addition to serving on Bottom Line’s Board, Sura serves as a board member of the Shirley Eustis House in Roxbury and is a member of the DOME advisory council which supports Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiatives. She is a member of the Massachusetts Association of Elementary School Principals, the Black Educator's Alliance of Boston and CSAME Educator's Alliance. She currently resides in Mattapan, MA.

Peter Pavlina, Hamersley Partners 
Peter has been a member of the board since 2003 and was Chair of the Board from October 2004 until September 2007. He has more than 20 years experience in financial services. Before starting Hamersley Partners, he worked at Oechsle International Advisors where he was responsible for institutional consultant and plan sponsor marketing, client service and portfolio management. Prior to that, he was an equity analyst at Keystone Custodian Funds and an accountant at Price Waterhouse. Mr. Pavlina has an MBA from the Sloan School at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MS in Taxation from Golden Gate University, and a BS in Finance and Accounting from Santa Clara University. He holds Series 7, 63 and 24 securities licenses and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Peter C. Pedro, Jr, The Bostonian Group 
Peter has served on the Bottom Line Board since 1999. He is a Senior Vice President and Partner with the Bostonian Group and is directly responsible for all Sales and Marketing activities. He has spent his entire career in the Insurance and Employee benefits arena holding a variety of senior management positions. He currently serves on the board for Catholic Charities, Girls Incorporated and the Agganis Foundation. Peter received his BA from the State University of New York at Albany. He currently resides in Lynn with his wife Michelle and three children, Alex, Olivia and Amelia

Viola Morse 
Viola Morse joined the board in October 2005 as a result of her strong interest in educational opportunities for underserved populations. She herself came to this country as a child, having lived in several other countries before settling in New York City. English was her fifth language. As a young adult, Viola moved to Boston and started her career working in health care management. Her career expanded to Marketing, Communications and Program Management in the non-profit sector, mostly in educational and health care institutions. Viola received a B.S. from New York University and an MBA from Suffolk University; She lives in Wellesley with her husband Richard, and two children who are both currently away at college. Both children were adopted from Ecuador. She has continued her strong connection to Ecuador by supporting an orphanage there, running semi-annual Mission Trips to Quito and creating a child sponsorship program through a local church.

Patti Saris, United States District Court 
Judge Patti B. Saris was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and has resided in the Boston area for most of her life. She is graduate of the Girls' Latin School, Radcliffe College and Harvard Law School. After graduating from law school she clerked for the Supreme Judicial Court and then went into private practice. When Senator Edward M. Kennedy became chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee she moved to Washington D.C. and worked as staff counsel. She later became an Assistant United States Attorney, and eventually chief of the Civil Division. In 1986, Judge Saris became a United States Magistrate Judge, and in 1989, she was appointed as an Associate Justice of the Massachusetts Superior Court. In 1994, she was appointed to the United States District Court by President Clinton. Judge Saris is active on various judicial committees and was on the Harvard Board of Overseers. The mother of four children, Judge Saris is married to Arthur Segel who teaches at Harvard Business School.

Dave Terry, Salvectus , Chair
Dave is a native Bostonian and a product of the Boston Public schools. He credits his admission to college to the diligence and persistence of his guidance counselor at the Boston Latin School. Dave is an experienced healthcare executive with over 17 years in the industry. Currently he is the Founder and President of Salvectus Healthcare, an investment firm focused on acquiring and managing middle market healthcare services companies. Prior to founding Salvectus Dave was the Senior Vice President of Business Development for Harborside Healthcare, a private equity backed long term care company. At Harborside he led the company's Ancillary Services Division. In the past Dave has held senior positions in healthcare general management, mergers and acquisitions, management consulting, and IT development and implementation. Dave holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Columbia University. He lives in Brookline with his wife Emily and three children, Julia, Henry and Miles.

Michael Volo, Fidelity Investments 
Mike Volo is senior vice president of Fidelity Investments, the largest mutual fund company in the United States, the No. 1 provider of workplace retirement savings plans and a leading online brokerage firm. Mike is responsible for marketing and communications to Fidelity's workplace retirement savings plan clients. Mike re-joined Fidelity in 2005, leading the client relationship management team serving tax-exempt employers. He joined Fidelity from Scudder Investments, a division of Deutsche Bank, where he held a series of leadership positions, including managing director of Marketing and Product Management for the firm, chief operating officer of Scudder Distributions, Inc., and president of Scudder Trust Company. Mike has also held senior positions at two Fortune 500 financial services organizations. Mike earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Boston College and resides in Sudbury with his wife and three children.
